Intro
Cognac is a fixed steel jacket platform in the Gulf of Mexico, installed in 1978. At the time of installation, it was the tallest fixed offshore platform. It produces oil and gas and includes drilling, processing, and export facilities integrated into a single structure.
Field
The Cognac field lies in Mississippi Canyon, Gulf of Mexico, producing from Miocene sandstone reservoirs. The field includes multiple stacked reservoirs typical of Gulf deepwater geology and was one of the early large-scale deepwater developments.
Facilities
Cognac consists of a large fixed jacket structure supporting multiple decks with drilling rigs, production wells, and processing equipment. Wells are drilled from the platform and completed as dry-tree producers. Produced fluids are routed through separation systems to split oil, gas, and water. Oil is exported via pipeline, while gas is compressed and transported through offshore networks. The platform includes produced water treatment systems, utility systems such as power generation, and living quarters. The structure is anchored to the seabed and designed to support heavy topside loads. Export pipelines connect to regional infrastructure, enabling continuous production and transport of hydrocarbons.
