Intro
Waveney is a normally unattended installation (NUI) located in the Southern North Sea serving the Waveney gas field. It produces predominantly natural gas to export specifications and was commissioned in the late 20th century. The platform functions primarily as a wellhead and gathering hub with minimal processing before export via pipelines to regional infrastructure.
Field
The Waveney field is a conventional UK Southern North Sea gas accumulation developed with fixed platform infrastructure. Reservoirs are conventional sandstone targets producing dry gas. The field is part of a cluster of shallow water gas developments operated in this portion of the basin and is tied into wider export systems linking to onshore processing. Development style reflects modest field scale with unmanned installations tied into host processing facilities.
Facilities
Waveney Platform comprises a steel jacket supporting well slots and basic manifolds for gas production. As a normally unattended installation, its facilities focus on well support, flow control, and metering. There are no substantial separation trains; produced fluids are stabilized and routed via subsea pipelines (including ties to nearby hubs) into broader Southern North Sea export networks that deliver gas to shore. Utilities on Waveney are limited to remote instrumentation and control systems, chemical injection for hydrate and corrosion management, and minimal power generation solely to support control systems and equipment health monitoring. The platform has a helideck certified for daylight operations to support periodic maintenance. Produced gas is routed via subsea export lines into regional gathering systems and onward to onshore terminals. Safety and control functions include remote shutdown valves, emergency isolation, and integration into the UKCS central control networks.
