Intro

Gannet A is a fixed steel jacket drilling, production and accommodation platform in the Central North Sea, UKCS, commissioned in the early 1990s. It processes oil and associated gas from the Gannet A field and tied-back satellite subsea wells (Gannet B, C, D, F, G). The platform exports hydrocarbons via regional pipeline systems to onshore facilities.

Field

The Gannet field lies in Blocks 21/25, 21/30, 22/21 and 22/26a, roughly 180-km east of Aberdeen. Discovered in 1973, it produces oil and gas from Tertiary turbiditic sand reservoirs with an oil leg and overlying gas cap. Several satellite accumulations are developed by subsea tie-backs to the Gannet A host platform.

Facilities

Gannet A’s jacket supports integrated drilling facilities, production wells and processing modules configured for multiphase separation of oil, gas and water. Hydrocarbons from platform wells and subsea tiebacks are routed to multiple separator trains. Produced oil is stabilized, metered and exported via an infield pipeline to the Fulmar installation and into the Norpipe system to Teesside; gas is conditioned (dehydrated, compressed) and exported via the Fulmar Gas Pipeline to St-Fergus. The platform’s utilities include gas turbine power generation, HVAC, instrument air, chemical injection for hydrate/corrosion control, produced water treatment and firewater networks. The accommodation block supports crew rotations and integrates control systems for field operations and safety. Subsea control umbilicals and flowlines connect Gannet’s satellite fields, enabling centralised processing and export while maintaining stable long-term operations.
