Intro

North Morecambe (typically identified with the DPPA platform) is a normally unattended offshore wellhead and production facility in the North Morecambe gas field, installed in the early 1990s in UK Block 110/2a. It gathers gas from the northern field and exports via pipeline to onshore processing at Barrow Gas Terminal.

Field

North Morecambe is a major conventional gas field in the Irish Sea, discovered in 1976 and brought into production in 1994. The field produces from Triassic Sherwood sandstone reservoirs with a dedicated gathering platform (DPPA) that feeds processed gas to the Barrow onshore terminal through subsea pipeline.

Facilities

The North Morecambe platform (DPPA) hosts multiple production well slots on a fixed jacket and serves as the central gathering hub for the northern field’s well fluids. Wellstreams are routed into primary separation and metering equipment on DPPA; typically two-phase separation handles gas and condensate, with liquid removal and control of water and condensate prior to export. Gas is dehydrated offshore or onshore before pipeline export to the Barrow Gas Terminal via dedicated export pipelines. DPPA includes utilities for power generation (gas turbines), control systems (SCADA), emergency shutdown and communication links to onshore operations. Injection points for corrosion/flow assurance chemicals and metering skids ensure stable export quality. Because North Morecambe fluids may carry variable CO- and nitrogen content, appropriate handling and specification controls interface with onshore processing. Supporting infrastructure includes subsea umbilicals for satellite wells and inter-platform tie-backs, electrical distribution networks, and structural accommodation for maintenance access.
