Intro
Ekofisk K is a fixed steel-jacket platform in the Greater Ekofisk Area serving as the main water injection facility. Water injection commenced in 1987 and continues to support reservoir pressure maintenance for Ekofisk’s chalk reservoirs. The platform also supports some production wells and ties into the Ekofisk infrastructure.
Field
Ekofisk’s chalk reservoir in the Tor and Ekofisk Formations produces oil and associated gas in ~70-m water depth. Comprehensive water injection has been a cornerstone of increasing recovery and supporting long-term production from one of the North Sea’s foundational fields.
Facilities
Ekofisk K’s principal role is handling large-scale water injection into the field’s reservoir system. It receives treated seawater and injects it through dedicated wells to maintain reservoir drive and enhance oil recovery. Water injection activities are coordinated with other Ekofisk II facilities and subsea templates. The platform’s utilities include seawater treatment and injection pumps, power generation, control and monitoring systems linked into Ekofisk’s central control infrastructure. While it may include limited wellheads for injection and perhaps minor production, its infrastructure is oriented toward maintaining reservoir pressure, supporting ongoing offshore production. Produced fluids continue to be handled and exported through central process platforms (e.g., Ekofisk J) and exported via the Norpipe systems to onshore terminals.
