Intro

Ekofisk 2/4-J is a fixed steel-jacket transport and processing platform in the Ekofisk area of the Norwegian North Sea, installed in 1997 and commissioned in 1998 as part of the Ekofisk II project. It centralises processing and export of oil and gas from the Greater Ekofisk Area.

Field

The Ekofisk field is a mature North Sea oil and gas province discovered in 1969, producing from Paleocene chalk and Tor Formations. Ekofisk comprises a large complex of platforms; 2/4-J is the main process hub receiving production from the field and satellites.

Facilities

Ekofisk 2/4-J receives wellstreams from Ekofisk’s subsea wells and adjacent platforms (including Eldfisk and Valhall). It performs primary separation of oil, gas and water, compression for gas export, and stabilization of hydrocarbons for export. Gas export is via the Norpipe system to Emden, Germany, and oil export via Norpipe to Teesside, UK. The platform includes water treatment systems, gas compressors, heaters and utility modules. It interfaces with bridge-linked platforms and subsea manifolds. Onboard utilities include power generation (turbines), electrical distribution, water injection pumps, and control systems coordinating fieldwide operations. Structural design accommodates subsidence mitigation and high throughput.
