Intro
Ekofisk C is one of the original fixed steel-jacket production platforms installed as part of the Ekofisk field in the Norwegian North Sea. Operational from the early 1970s, it has provided production, drilling and accommodation services and has been integrated within the Greater Ekofisk Area complex, connected through bridges and subsea tie-backs to adjacent structures.
Field
The Ekofisk field produces oil and gas from chalk reservoirs at ~3000-m subsea depth within the Tor and Ekofisk Formations. The field was discovered in 1969, and extensive infrastructure developed around multiple platforms and subsea installations to support long-term production and water injection programmes.
Facilities
Ekofisk C supported wells and flowlines tied into primary processing nodes in the Ekofisk complex. Its topsides hosted drilling facilities and production handling, with fluid streams routed into central processing on Ekofisk J and other hub platforms in the Ekofisk II project. Crude oil and associated NGLs were shipped via Norpipe to Teesside; gas was compressed and exported to Emden via the Norpipe gas pipeline. Ekofisk C connected physically to neighbouring platforms and benefitted from shared utilities including power generation, water handling, safety and process control systems. Long-term water injection from Ekofisk K and subsea templates has supported reservoir pressure and recovery.
