Intro
34/7 HY03 is a floating offshore wind turbine forming part of the Hywind Tampen project in the Norwegian North Sea. Installed by 2023, it provides renewable electricity to nearby offshore platforms. The unit is permanently moored and operates continuously as part of a multi-turbine floating wind array.
Field
Hywind Tampen is located adjacent to the Snorre and Gullfaks oil and gas fields. While not a producing field itself, the wind farm supports these long-established developments by supplying electrical power, reducing reliance on gas-turbine-driven generation offshore.
Facilities
The HY03 turbine comprises a spar-type floating substructure supporting an offshore wind turbine rated around 8 MW. The foundation is stabilized by ballast and anchored using mooring chains. Generated power is transmitted via dynamic export cables to offshore substations and directly to oil and gas platforms. Systems include turbine control, condition monitoring, lightning protection, and remote shutdown capability. There are no personnel facilities or hydrocarbon systems. The installation is designed for long-term unattended operation with periodic marine inspection and maintenance.
