Intro
J6-A is a fixed offshore gas compression/riser platform serving the Markham Gas Field straddling the UK/Netherlands median line in the Southern North Sea, commissioned in the early 2000s. It provides a riser point and compression support for gas flows into export pipelines, interfacing with both UK and Dutch infrastructure.
Field
The Markham Gas Field was discovered in 1987 and lies across the UK/Netherlands median line in the Southern North Sea. It produces high-pressure natural gas from Triassic/Permian reservoirs, exporting into regional pipeline networks. J6-A functions as a key infrastructure node in the field’s development.
Facilities
J6-A’s facilities are focused on gathering gas from field wells and boosting pressure for export. It includes riser connections to subsea pipelines serving the Markham field, compression modules to maintain export integrity, and metering. Separation and dehydration functions may be minimal or provided at adjacent host facilities; the platform is primarily a processing hub for routing and pressurization. Utilities include platform power generation, control systems, safety shutdown and firewater networks appropriate for a riser/compression installation. Export routes tie into the regional gas grid via trunk pipelines connecting to onshore terminals in the Netherlands and UK, enabling integrated field commercial flows.
