Intro

The Golden Eagle W platform is a fixed wellhead platform in the Golden Eagle Area development of the UK North Sea. Commissioned around the field start up in 2014, it contains production wells and ties back to the bridge-linked PUQ for processing and export of hydrocarbons from Golden Eagle and satellite fields.

Field

The Golden Eagle development is an oil and gas field ~70-mi northeast of Aberdeen in up to ~114-m water depth. Discovered in 2007, the field and adjacent satellites hold ~140-million barrels recoverable oil with associated gas produced through the platform complex.

Facilities

The W platform sits on a steel jacket and hosts multiple production well slots drilled into the Golden Eagle reservoirs and adjacent subsea manifolds. It gathers well fluids which are sent via the inter-platform bridge to the PUQ for separation and conditioning. Wellhead systems incorporate tubing hangers, Xmas trees, choke and safety valves, and chemical injection points for corrosion and hydrate control. The platform’s bridge carries flowlines and control umbilicals to the PUQ. It supports flow assurance with pigging facilities and pressure management. Structural supports include helideck, flare boom, and emergency shutdown systems tied into the PUQ safety logic. Remote monitoring and well control systems interface into the central control room on the PUQ. Basic utilities are provided for well operation safety and instrumentation.
