Intro
Cutter QC is a normally unmanned wellhead and gathering platform in the Cutter gas accumulation on the UK–Netherlands median line in the Southern North Sea. Installed as a minimal facility platform in ~2013, it hosts production well slots and exports unprocessed gas via a pipeline to the Carrack QA riser platform and onward to the Clipper complex and Bacton Gas Terminal. The design emphasizes simplicity and remote operation and uses a platform powered by wind and solar energy that produce zero carbon dioxide emissions.
Field
The Cutter field lies in UKCS Block 49/9a and adjacent Dutch sector acreage, producing conventional Rotliegend reservoir gas. It was developed with two wells drilled through the QC platform structure with export capacity tied into the Carrack QA and Clipper export infrastructure to shore, with reservoir characteristics typical of Permian Rotliegendes sandstone gas.
Facilities
Cutter QC sits on a minimal steel jacket with a topside supporting two producing well slots, Xmas trees, flowlines and basic manifolding. There is no onboard hydrocarbon processing; multiphase fluids are exported unprocessed via a 19-km, 16-inch pipeline to the Carrack QA riser platform where production joins Clipper complex flows. Utilities are limited to remote safety shutdown (ESD) valves, instrument power and control instrumentation tied by umbilical to onshore control via Carrack/Clipper. Flow assurance is supported by corrosion/hydrate inhibitor injection controlled from shore. The monotower’s renewable-power concept (solar/wind battery) was implemented to support extended unmanned operation without diesel generation. Structural provisions include navigation lighting and minimal helideck tasking on adjacent host structures. Safety systems integrate fire/gas detection and ESD logic consistent with UKCS standards, with well control supported by remotely monitored choke and valve systems.
