Intro
The Buzzard Utilities & Quarters Platform (UQ) is a manned support platform in the Buzzard oil field installed in 2007. It provides accommodation, utilities, power generation and life support, and connects via bridges to the Production (P) and Wellhead (W) platforms, underpinning field operations and export readiness.
Field
The Buzzard field’s reservoir produces medium sour crude and associated gas from Jurassic sands in the Central North Sea. UQ supports the integrated cluster of platforms enabling long-term production and processing for export.
Facilities
The UQ platform sits on a steel jacket and supports living quarters for operations personnel, main and emergency power generation, electrical distribution, HVAC, potable water and sewage systems, safety systems and utilities. It houses seawater lift pumps for firewater and process use, and provides administrative, control room and maintenance spaces. UQ’s power generation supplies electrical power to the Buzzard complex while integrating with P and W platforms’ utility distribution and safety systems (fire & gas detection, ESD). Bridges link UQ to P, W and PS platforms for personnel access, shared communications and coordinated operations. Helideck and lifeboat facilities support crew changes; utilities include instrument air, control systems, compressed air, HVAC, and accommodation services. UQ’s structural design accounts for weather and operational loads in the North Sea and ensures redundancy for production continuity.
