Intro
Hyde is a small unmanned offshore gas production platform in the Hyde gas field, Southern North Sea UK Block 48/6. Installed in 1993, it produces natural gas from Triassic and Permian reservoirs and exports via a pipeline tie-back to the West Sole Alpha complex, ultimately delivering gas to the Easington Gas Terminal onshore.
Field
The Hyde gas field is part of the West Sole gas accumulation in the Southern North Sea, discovered in the early 1980s. Reservoirs are Lower Permian Leman sandstones, developed via minimum facilities on a normally unmanned platform with production piped to West Sole and onward to the Easington terminal.
Facilities
Hyde comprises a small steel jacket platform with a cluster of horizontal wells tied to the structure. Fluids flow through topside manifolds and flowlines directly to the West Sole Alpha complex via a subsea pipeline; Hyde does not have significant separation or conditioning equipment. At West Sole, incoming gas is subjected to slug catching, separation and dehydration before export through a major export pipeline to the Easington Gas Terminal. Hyde’s limited topside facilities include well control, metering and emergency shutdown systems appropriate for an unmanned installation. Remote power and communications are provided from the West Sole hub, with utilities sized for NUI operation. Structural design meets UKCS norms for shallow Southern North Sea platforms.
