Intro
Clipper PT is the production platform within the Clipper gas complex in Block 48/19a, commissioned around 1990. It carries bulk separation and primary gas treatment facilities. It is bridge-linked to other Clipper installations including PW and PC, forming part of the integrated hub exporting processed gas to Bacton.
Field
The Clipper gas field is a significant Southern North Sea gas reservoir producing from Lower Permian Leman Sandstone. Since first production in 1990, Clipper has served as a central hub for gas from nearby fields, exporting through the Clipper pipeline to the Bacton Gas Terminal and onward to the UK national grid.
Facilities
PT’s topsides include inlet bulk liquid separators, three-phase separation to remove condensate and water, and gas dehydration units to achieve pipeline specifications. Conditioned gas is sent to compression on PC and onward export. PT also houses gas conditioning equipment such as filters and coalescers. Electrical power is supplied via onboard generators and distribution systems, with control systems integrated across the Clipper hub for coordinated operations. Safety systems include firewater, deluge, emergency shutdown valves, and gas detection networks. Utilities include instrument air, potable water, and HVAC. Bridge links connect PT to PW and PC, facilitating movement of personnel and maintenance access. Export pipelines and metering systems interface through PT or shared manifolds, ensuring accurate flow measurement before export. The fixed steel structure is designed for stable long-term service in Southern North Sea conditions.
