Intro
Barque PL is a fixed steel production and processing platform located in the UK southern North Sea, Block 48/13. Installed in the mid-1980s, it formed the main processing hub for the Barque gas field. The platform handled gas separation, treatment, and export and was physically linked to the Barque PB compression platform.
Field
The Barque gas field lies in the Sole Pit Basin of the southern North Sea. Discovered in 1969, it produces gas from Permian Rotliegend sandstone reservoirs. Development focused on fixed platform infrastructure and pipeline export to the UK gas network via the Bacton terminal.
Facilities
Barque PL housed primary production facilities including inlet separation, gas dehydration, condensate handling, and produced water treatment. Gas arriving from production wells was processed to meet export specifications before transfer to compression facilities on Barque PB. Condensate was separated, metered, and exported via pipeline. Utilities included gas-fired power generation, instrument air, chemical injection, and firewater systems. The platform contained control and safety systems managing both PL and PB operations. Export infrastructure connected the Barque complex to the southern North Sea gas pipeline network. Structural design consisted of a fixed steel jacket and topsides supporting long-term dry gas processing operations.
