Intro
The Culzean Processing Platform is a fixed steel installation forming the core processing facility of the Culzean gas field in the UK Central North Sea, Block 22/25a. Commissioned in 2019, it processes high-pressure gas production from the Culzean reservoirs before export to shore. It is bridge-linked to the Wellhead and ULQ platforms.
Field
The Culzean gas field produces from deep Triassic Skagerrak sandstone reservoirs under high-pressure, high-temperature conditions. Discovered in 2008, the field represents one of the largest recent gas developments in the UK sector, requiring specialized HPHT processing infrastructure.
Facilities
The Processing Platform receives raw gas from the Wellhead Platform and performs full gas treatment. Facilities include high-pressure separation, gas dehydration, condensate stabilization, and hydrocarbon dew-point control. Condensate is separated, metered, and exported via pipeline, while treated gas is exported through the Central Area Transmission System to the UK gas network. Produced water is treated to discharge standards. The platform is designed to handle extreme pressures and temperatures, incorporating robust metallurgy, pressure protection, and safety systems. Utilities such as power, instrument air, and firewater are supplied from the ULQ platform. Integrated control and safety systems manage processing operations and interface with export pipelines. The structure is engineered for long-term, high-integrity gas processing operations.
