Intro

Gullfaks C is an integrated steel-topsided, concrete gravity base platform in the northern North Sea, installed in 1989 and operational from 1990. It is part of the Gullfaks oil field infrastructure, handling production, processing and accommodations. It exports oil to tanker buoys and rich gas into Statpipe for onshore processing, supporting satellite tie-ins like Tordis and Visund Sør.

Field

The Gullfaks field lies on the Tampen Spur in ~130–220-m water depth, discovered in 1978 and producing since 1986. It produces primarily oil with associated gas, from multiple Jurassic and Triassic sandstone formations. Gullfaks has three main concrete platforms (A, B, C) with extensive subsea tie-backs.

Facilities

Gullfaks C’s steel topsides on a concrete base include wells for production and water/gas injection tied to the field’s subsea network. The topsides host multi-stage three-phase separation, gas treatment, dehydration, and crude stabilization. Stabilised crude is exported to shuttle tanker loading buoys; rich gas is routed into the Statpipe pipeline system to onshore processing at Kårstø. Utilities include platform power generation, produced-water handling, gas compression and utility modules; accommodation supports long-term offshore operations. Subsea tiebacks from nearby discoveries augment throughput; the platform integrates flare systems, safety shutdowns, and remote control interfaces with fieldwide automation. Continued life-extension planning addresses evolving reservoir dynamics and supports robust structural and process systems suitable for mature field operations.
