Intro

Ameland-Westgat-1 (AWG-1) is a fixed offshore gas production platform ~3-km north of Ameland’s east coast in the Dutch North Sea, commissioned in 1985. It serves as the central processing and export hub for gas produced locally and from satellite sources including AME-2 and onshore AME-1.

Field

The Ameland-Westgat field produces conventional gas from Upper Slochteren reservoirs in a shallow offshore setting. The field includes offshore platforms and onshore wells supplying gas to AWG-1 to be processed and exported into the Noordgastransport system at Groningen.

Facilities

AWG-1’s facilities include well slots tied directly to multiple offshore gas wells (typically seven active wells) and subsea flowlines from AME-2 and AME-1. The topsides house initial separation equipment to remove water and condensate, dehydration and export compression systems, and metering for pipeline export. Gas is exported into the Noordgastransport pipeline at Uithuizen, connecting to broader Dutch gas networks. Utilities include power generation units historically fueled by produced gas (more recently upgraded to green electricity), water handling, flare systems and integrated control systems with remote monitoring. Accommodation, helideck, and safety systems support offshore workforces. Structural design reflects a hub installation optimized for shallow water (~6-m) with corrosion protection, subsea tie-backs and export infrastructure as persistent features.
