Intro
P6-A is a former offshore production platform in the P6 gas/oil field in the Dutch sector of the North Sea. It formed part of a cluster of fixed installations developed for gas export; recent programmes have initiated its planned decommissioning and removal.
Field
The P6 Main field (also styled P06) is a conventional offshore gas field in the Southern North Sea with Rotliegendes sandstone reservoirs. Discovered in the late 1960s, it historically supplied gas to the Dutch grid via interconnected pipelines and fixed platforms before being wound down.
Facilities
P6-A’s steel jacket and topsides hosted wellheads, reception systems and gas handling modules tailored for field production before export. The platform was connected into a network of pipelines (e.g., Q4A–P6A, P6B–P6A) conveying gas toward onshore infrastructure. Utility systems included power generation, well control systems, dehydration and metering for pipeline export, and safety shutdown/flare systems. In 2024, a full decommissioning campaign was executed with topside and jacket removal, seabed clearing, and disposal in compliance with regulations, concluding its operational life as part of Wintershall Noordzee’s decommissioning programme.
