Intro
Njord A is a floating steel semi-submersible platform in the Norwegian Sea, installed in 1997, integrating drilling, production and processing of oil and gas from the Njord field. It supports export of hydrocarbons and utilities for connected satellites, with a linked floating storage unit, Njord Bravo. Production was restarted after upgrade in 2022.
Field
The Njord field lies in the Norwegian Sea about 130-km northwest of Kristiansund in ~330-m water depth. Discovered in 1986 and sanctioned in 1995, it produces both oil and gas from Jurassic sandstone reservoirs. The field is developed jointly with nearby satellites Hyme, Bauge, Fenja and associated subsea wells tied back to Njord A.
Facilities
Njord A hosts multiple production and injection wells tied to the field’s subsea templates. Drilling facilities support drilling and workovers, while its topsides house primary separation, oil and gas processing, water injection, and gas export preparation. Produced oil is stored in the nearby FSU Njord Bravo and exported by shuttle tankers. Gas is compressed and exported via pipeline into the Åsgard Transport System to the onshore Kårstø terminal. Utilities include onboard power generation (gas turbines), water handling for injection and ballast, and control systems for subsea and topside operations. The platform supports long-term field development including tie-ins of neighbouring discoveries, and is designed for sustained operations with robust safety and environmental systems.
