Intro
Nyhamna is an onshore gas processing plant on the island of Gossa in Aukra, Norway, receiving high-pressure natural gas from the Ormen Lange subsea field development. Commissioned in 2007, it conditions and compresses gas for export via the Langeled subsea pipeline to the UK.
Field
The Ormen Lange gas field in the Norwegian Sea is developed with seabed wells tied directly to Nyhamna via flowlines, producing dry gas without fixed offshore platforms. Reservoirs lie in deep Jurassic sandstones. Ormen Lange is one of the largest gas discoveries on the Norwegian shelf, feeding Nyhamna for conditioning and transport.
Facilities
The Nyhamna plant receives multiphase gas from subsea wells via pipelines and processes it to remove condensate, water and impurities. Gas is dehydrated and conditioned to meet export specifications. It includes compressors to raise gas pressure for efficient export through the Langeled pipeline — one of the world’s longest subsea gas export lines. Condensate and natural gas liquids are separated and stored or transported to market. Utility systems include electrical power, process water handling, safety shutdown and flare systems, and control and metering facilities for export. The plant’s integration with the Langeled export route underpins its infrastructure: gas flows through a 1-100-+-km subsea pipeline to the Easington terminal in the UK, connecting Norwegian supplies into the UK National Transmission System.
