Intro
Gorm D is the dedicated flare stack and gas handling platform in the Gorm field, installed in 1981. It does not produce or process hydrocarbons for export but serves to safely combust excess gas and manage pressure relief from the field’s operations.
Field
The Gorm field’s hydrocarbon regime includes associated gas that may require flaring, especially during start-up, maintenance, or upset conditions. A dedicated flare platform like Gorm D provides a safe flare tip and support for these operations.
Facilities
Gorm D’s infrastructure is centered around a steel jacket supporting a flare boom and stack, with utility systems for flare ignition, pilot systems, flame monitoring, and safety shutdowns. It interfaces with the field’s gas network via pipelines that carry excess gas from processing and well operations. Control and safety systems on Gorm D include flame arrestors, gas detectors, and emergency shutdown valves integrated into the field’s SCADA and safety system. As a non-manned installation, it depends on remote monitoring and periodic maintenance visits. Its standalone flare capacity ensures compliance with offshore safety and environmental standards, allowing uninterrupted main processing operations at Gorm C and Gorm F.
