Intro

The Leman AC platform is a fixed steel compression platform in the UK Southern North Sea, part of the Leman Alpha complex. Installed in the mid-1970s/1976 as part of the Leman 49/27A cluster of installations, it compresses gas to support export to the Bacton Gas Terminal. It is bridge-linked into the Leman A processing hub and serves as a central hub for gas lift and export continuity.

Field

The Leman gas field lies in Blocks 49/26 and 49/27 of the Southern North Sea, discovered in 1966 with production commencing in 1968. The reservoir comprises Rotliegendes sandstone at ~6,000 ft depth with large gas volumes (~11 Tcf original gas in place). Development involved numerous platforms tied back to central complexes with export to Bacton.

Facilities

The AC platform forms part of a multi-platform compression and processing hub. It is connected via bridge to the Leman AK platform and others within the Leman Alpha cluster. The installation houses multi-stage centrifugal gas compressors driven by gas turbines, with scrubbers, coolers, fuel gas conditioning, and wet gas handling systems. It supports export by boosting pressure for routing gas via pipelines to the onshore Bacton terminal. Wells across the Leman complex feed into central manifolds; produced gas undergoes separation and dehydration before compression. Power is typically provided by gas-driven generators and auxiliary diesel units; utilities include nitrogen systems, chemical injection, and basic flare and vent systems compliant with UKCS standards. The compression role reduces backpressure and supports capacity from satellite NUIs tied into the complex.
