Intro

The Katy platform is a normally unmanned minimal facilities installation in the Katy gas field of the UK Southern North Sea. Installed in 2012, it supports wellheads for production and ties back gas into the Murdoch complex infrastructure, with export onward via the Lincolnshire Offshore Gas Gathering System to Theddlethorpe (historically).

Field

The Katy field lies in Block 44/19b of the UK Southern North Sea producing gas; first gas was achieved in 2013 with field infrastructure tied back to existing systems.

Facilities

The Katy platform comprises a three-leg jacket and minimal topsides designed for unmanned operation. It hosts production wellheads and associated Xmas trees, flow control and remote safety systems. Production gas is exported via a ~14-km, 10-inch pipeline tying into the Kelvin subsea tee and then into the Murdoch platform complex. Utility systems include remote safety shutdown, chemical injection for hydrate/corrosion control, and power for local instrumentation. There is no significant hydrocarbon processing on board; fluids flow directly to the Murdoch processing hub for dehydration, compression and conditioning before export to shore. The platform is controlled remotely with periodic maintenance visits, and features basic fire & gas detection, emergency shutdown valves, and subsea control umbilicals linking it to Murdoch.
