Intro

The Grove platform is a normally unmanned minimal facilities installation in the Grove gas field in the Southern North Sea, commissioned in 2007. Located near the UK–Netherlands median line, it hosts wellheads and export manifolds and sends gas via a pipeline to the Markham J6A facilities and onward to Den Helder in the Netherlands, linking into the West Gas Transport system.

Field

The Grove gas field spans Blocks 49/10a, 49/9c and 49/10c in the Southern North Sea with fluvial sandstone reservoirs of Westphalian age. First production was achieved in 2007 via the Grove NUI, with multiple wells targeting compartmentalized reservoir units and export through the neighboring Markham infrastructure into the Dutch pipeline network.

Facilities

Grove’s installation comprises a four-leg steel jacket with a small topside supporting multiple production well slots, Xmas trees and manifolds. There is no significant on-platform separation; produced gas is sent via an approximately 13.4-km, 10-inch pipeline to the Markham J6A facilities for processing and dehydration before export via the West Gas Transport pipeline to the Den Helder terminal. Utility systems include remote safety shutdown valves, chemical injection for hydrate and corrosion control, and local power for instrumentation and control loops. The platform is unmanned, with remote monitoring and control from onshore and periodic maintenance access. Flow assurance features pigging tie-ins and corrosion mitigation measures. Structural provisions are designed for Southern North Sea metocean conditions, with navigational aids and minimal helideck provisions as required.
