Intro
The South Morecambe Flare Tower is a bridge-linked steel jacket flare support structure within the South Morecambe central complex in the East Irish Sea. It serves as the platform’s primary gas and condensate flare and relief handling point. It is connected to the Central Production Platform (CPP1) via bridges and supports sustained field operations.
Field
Part of the South Morecambe segment of the Morecambe gas fields in the Irish Sea, the Flare Tower sits alongside the CPC comprising processing, drilling and accommodation platforms. The field produces dry gas with condensate from Triassic sandstone reservoirs developed with multiple jackets tied into the hub.
Facilities
The Flare Tower is a dedicated support structure for high-integrity flare systems interfacing with the South Morecambe Central Production Complex. It provides elevated flare stacks for safe combustion of excess gas, emergency depressurisation and relief venting from processing modules on adjacent platforms. The tower supports dedicated piping, relief headers, knockout drums and flare tip assemblies sized for the field’s capacity. It is integrated through bridge links to the Central Production Platform (CPP1), receiving relief streams from separation trains and utility systems. The design incorporates ignition systems, pilot burners, flare gas recovery/emission controls, and access for inspection/maintenance. Electrical power, instrument air and control cabling are bridged from adjacent platforms to support instrumentation and safety shutdown systems. The tower’s structural design accommodates wind, wave and platform deck loads, ensuring stability of the flare assembly and compliance with offshore emissions and safety standards.
