Intro

The Montrose BLP Import SSIV is a subsea isolation valve installation associated with the Montrose BLP platform in the UK Central North Sea. Installed as part of the field’s pipeline safety systems, it provides remote isolation of an incoming pipeline to the Montrose complex. The installation is unmanned and operates as a safety-critical component of the pipeline infrastructure.

Field

The Montrose field is located in the Central North Sea and produces oil from Upper Jurassic sandstone reservoirs. Its development relies on fixed platforms and subsea pipeline systems connected to regional export infrastructure, requiring robust isolation and safety systems to protect processing facilities.

Facilities

The Import SSIV is installed on the seabed along the incoming pipeline route to Montrose BLP. It provides rapid isolation of hydrocarbons in the event of an emergency, protecting the platform and personnel from uncontrolled pipeline releases. The valve is hydraulically or electrically actuated and controlled remotely from the Montrose control system. It is designed to fail-safe to the closed position upon loss of control signal or power. The SSIV is housed in a protective subsea structure and connected via umbilicals supplying power, control, and monitoring signals. It forms part of the platform’s overall emergency shutdown and pipeline integrity management system. The installation requires minimal intervention and is designed for long-term subsea operation with periodic inspection and maintenance using remotely operated vehicles.
