Intro

The Forties Unity Riser Platform is a fixed steel riser and utilities platform forming part of the Forties field redevelopment in the UK Central North Sea, Block 21/10. Installed in 2013, it supports the Forties Unity FPSO by accommodating risers, utilities, and export interfaces. It has no drilling capability and is bridge-linked to the FPSO.

Field

The Forties oil field lies in the Central North Sea within the Forties–Montrose High. Discovered in 1970, it produces oil from Paleocene Forties Sandstone reservoirs. The field was redeveloped using FPSO infrastructure to extend field life and manage mature production.

Facilities

The Riser Platform provides structural support for production, injection, and export risers connecting subsea wells and pipelines to the Forties Unity FPSO. It houses oil, gas, water injection, and utility risers, reducing loads on the FPSO turret. Facilities include pipeline isolation valves, pigging systems, and emergency shutdown interfaces. The platform also supports utilities such as firewater, electrical distribution, communications, and chemical injection routed between seabed infrastructure and the FPSO. Safety systems include fire and gas detection, deluge systems, and blast-rated structures protecting critical risers. The fixed steel jacket is designed for long-term service in a mature field environment. The platform plays a stable role in safeguarding flow assurance, integrity, and operational reliability by decoupling riser systems from FPSO motions and providing a secure interface between seabed infrastructure and surface processing facilities.
