Intro

Gryphon A is a floating production, storage and offloading vessel operating in the UK Central North Sea, Block 9/18a. Installed in 1993, it serves the Gryphon oil field and associated satellites. The FPSO is permanently moored and processes oil before storage and offloading to shuttle tankers.

Field

The Gryphon oil field lies in the Outer Moray Firth basin and produces oil from Jurassic sandstone reservoirs. Discovered in 1987, the field was developed using subsea wells tied back to a central FPSO to enable flexible development of multiple accumulations.

Facilities

Gryphon A receives production from subsea wells via risers and processes fluids through three-phase separation, oil stabilization, and produced water treatment. Stabilized oil is stored in the FPSO hull and exported to shuttle tankers in tandem configuration. Produced water is treated and discharged or reinjected as required. Associated gas is primarily used for onboard fuel. Utilities include power generation, seawater lift, firewater and deluge systems, chemical injection, inert gas systems, and integrated control and safety systems. The FPSO is turret-moored, allowing it to weathervane under environmental forces. Gryphon A has operated as a long-term processing and export hub for the field and nearby tie-backs.
