Intro
Visund is a semi-submersible integrated production, drilling and accommodation platform in the northern North Sea, on the Visund field. Operational since 1999, it handles both oil and gas from its own wells and nearby subsea templates. It is connected to subsea installations, including Visund North and Visund Sør templates, tied back via flexible risers.
Field
The Visund field, discovered in 1986 and producing since 1999, lies northeast of the Gullfaks field in the Tampen area. The reservoir comprises sandstone of the Brent Group, Statfjord Group and Lunde Formation. Development includes subsea templates tied to the Visund platform.
Facilities
Visund’s semi-submersible facility supports drilling, production processing and living quarters. It gathers hydrocarbons from platform wells and subsea templates (Visund North and South) via risers and flowlines. The topsides contain three-phase separation trains, gas compression, dehydration, water treatment and export pumping. Oil is exported by pipeline to Gullfaks A for storage/export; gas is piped via the Kvitebjørn system to onshore processing at Kollsnes. Onboard utilities include power generation, water injection pumps, accommodation services and integrated process control. The design supports mid-water semi-submersible stability in ~335-m depth with typical North Sea safety and flare systems.
