Intro

Johan Sverdrup RP (Riser/Process) is part of the Johan Sverdrup field centre in the North Sea, a major fixed platform installation for oil and associated gas production. Commissioned in 2019 (Phase I) and expanded in 2022 (Phase II), it functions as a central processing and riser hub with drilling, production, and living quarters linked by bridges.

Field

The Johan Sverdrup field lies on the Utsira High in the central North Sea at ~115-m water depth. Discovered in 2010, it produces oil from Upper Jurassic and associated reservoirs. The multi-platform field centre connects drilling, processing, and riser facilities and represents one of the largest oil developments on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Facilities

Johan Sverdrup RP integrates drilling, production, and riser functions on a fixed platform. It supports numerous production and injection wells (across phases) tied into topside process trains (separation, gas treatment, stabilisation). Hydrocarbon streams are routed between connected platforms via bridges; oil is exported via dedicated pipelines to onshore terminals (e.g., Mongstad/Mongstad area), while gas is sent via transmission pipelines (e.g., to Kårstø). Utility systems include power generation, safety and control systems, water and gas handling, accommodation, and support infrastructures. The installation is designed for long field life with redundancy in processing and export connectivity.
