Intro
Bygnes is the onshore control and receiving terminal for the Heimdal gas infrastructure in western Norway connected to the offshore facilities via pipelines. It hosts control systems, metering, and gas reception functions for onward distribution. Bygnes has been central to managing Heimdal and associated pipeline flows until the offshore hub’s shutdown.
Field
There is no dedicated offshore field named “Bygnes”; it serves as landfall, control and processing infrastructure for the Heimdal gas field and export pipelines. It enables conditioning and handover of gas from the Norwegian Continental Shelf into onshore networks for transport and distribution.
Facilities
As an onshore gas terminal and control hub, Bygnes integrates pipeline receipt facilities, control rooms, metering stations and pressure regulation equipment. It receives dry gas from subsea pipelines tied into the Heimdal export system and ensures safe delivery into Norway’s transmission grid. Key systems include filtration, residue liquid separation, safety interlocks, and SCADA control interfaces that link with offshore platforms like Heimdal. The facility supports export continuity and monitoring for associated pipelines and houses emergency shutdown systems, environmental controls, and utility systems necessary for continuous operation. Its design emphasizes stable control and distribution functions rather than upstream processing, and infrastructure remains relevant as a regional gas receipt point even as field operations wind down.
