Intro
K12-CC is a fixed, normally unmanned gas compression platform in the Dutch sector of the Southern North Sea, installed in 1988 as part of the K12 complex. It processes natural gas and provides compression to support export pressure and field recovery. The platform is linked via pipelines to nearby K12 installations and subsea wells in the K12 gas field network.
Field
The K12 field is part of the larger K7–K12 gas fields in the Netherlands’ Continental Shelf, producing conventional gas from Rotliegendes sandstones. The field lies offshore northwest of Den Helder in shallow water and has been developed through multiple fixed platforms and subsea completions since the early 1980s. Reservoirs are conventional high-calorific gas with some CO- content.
Facilities
K12-CC hosts compression modules that boost gas pressure from lower-pressure production sources for export via pipeline to onshore networks. It receives flows from subsea completions and adjacent platforms (e.g., K12-C, K12-D, and K12-G) and integrates with the field’s central processing hubs. Typical infrastructure includes gas compressors, associated separation and dehydration upstream of compression, electrical power generation (usually via turbine or generator sets), control systems for remote operation, and safety systems (flare, fire/ gas detection). Utility systems handle instrument air, cooling, and fuel gas. The platform’s design emphasizes compact topsides for unmanned operation and reliability, with periodic maintenance support from service vessels. Export lines link to central gathering pipelines feeding the Dutch onshore grid.
