Intro
K2b-A is a fixed offshore gas production platform in the Netherlands Continental Shelf, part of the K2b field developed in the Southern North Sea. Installed around 2005 within block K2, it produces natural gas and may handle basic processing before export. Physical connections link it to regional pipeline infrastructure feeding to onshore gas systems.
Field
The K2b field is a conventional shallow-water gas accumulation on the Dutch Continental Shelf. Gas is trapped in Rotliegendes or equivalent reservoirs typical of the K7–K12 area. The field has been developed via fixed platforms and flowlines to export networks.
Facilities
K2b-A’s facilities include wellheads drilled into the reservoir, production flowlines, and topside equipment for separation of liquids and gas conditioning to meet pipeline specifications. The platform integrates power generation (usually diesel or gas turbine generators), control and safety systems (SCADA, fire/gas detection, emergency shutdown), and export pumping/compression as required. Export infrastructure ties into subsea pipelines conveying gas to onshore processing terminals. Utility systems cover instrument air, cooling, and basic accommodation for maintenance crews if manned periodically. The design emphasizes stable long-term operation with corrosion control, cathodic protection on subsea assets, and redundancy for critical systems.
