Intro
Horizon (often referenced as P09-Horizon) was a fixed oil processing platform in the northern Dutch North Sea, installed in 1993 to develop the P9 Horizon oil field. It handled primary production and export functions. The platform has ceased operations and entered decommissioning alongside adjacent Q1/P9 installations.
Field
The P9 Horizon field is a conventional oil accumulation in the Netherlands sector’s P9 blocks. Discovered and developed in the late 1980s/early 1990s, the reservoir delivered oil with associated gas, feeding the Horizon platform’s processing modules and export systems to shore infrastructure.
Facilities
Horizon’s facilities included production wells and manifolds feeding into onboard primary separation trains, crude stabilization, and metering. Associated gas processing or export was arranged through nearby installations or tie-ins where required. Utilities comprised platform power generation, water and fire systems, accommodation for crew, and integrated controls. Export of stabilized crude was via subsea pipeline networks to onshore terminals. The facility was designed for long-term oil production with regular maintenance access via vessel or helicopter. During decommissioning, well plugging and abandonment, topside and jacket removal, and seabed remediation are being executed per regulatory plans.
